This year, we worked tirelessly on our bill SHB 1248, which would have raised the Mandatory Arbitration (MAR) limits to $75,000 (as amended by Senate Law & Justice Committee) as our top legislative priority. Unfortunately, the bill did not advance out of Senate Ways & Means Committee, despite bipartisan support, and is “dead” for this session. The good news is that next year, we won’t have to start over. In January 2016, SHB 1248 will immediately be referred to 3rd reading in the House.
This vital bill showed strong support this year, including being passed out of the House 78-19 and making it through the Senate Law & Justice Committee with unanimous support. Next year, we will swiftly build on the bipartisan support for this issue. We extend a special thank you to the many members who wrote their legislators, joined us at our two Lobby Days, and testified in the House and Senate committees hearing the bill.
